This is the Goobs FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). If you have a question that you think should be added, gimme an e-mail. Oh, newly added questions and updates on old questions will be italicized.

Q: How long have you been doing Goobs?
A: I started Goobs in April, 2002.

Q: Is Goobs based on you personally?
A: Pretty much, they're based on myself, and my friend Brad. The character Brad is loosely based on the real person. I, on the other hand, am exactly like my cartoon counterpart; no exaggeration at all.

(I'm the one with the crazy hair, in case you had trouble figuring it out.)

Q: Why did you decide to start a webcomic?
A: Well, I've been drawing since I was able to pick up a pencil, and have been drawing comic strips since I was in elementary school. Also, because I hate myself.

Q: Why is the comic called "Goobs"?
A: I knew the comic was going to be about a couple of geeks, but just calling it "Geeks" or "Dorks" sounded a bit generic to me. My friend Brad (the basis for the character Brad) suggested "Goobs" because it's short for "goobers", and... well... that's what we are. Then, a couple days later, the friend of a girl Brad was dating at the time called him a "goob", so I took it as a sign.

Q: Any influences?
A: Well, when I was a kid, Garfield is what made me want to start doing comic strips. As I got older, I came to worship Bill Watterson & Gary Larson for their strips, and then eventually Jim Borgman's drawing style for Zits. Other than that, no SPECIFIC influences in my art style....many styles I've seen over the years just burrowed their way into my subconscious, mixed in a mental blender, and the resulting paste was spread over the synapses of my mental landscape.

Q: What other projects have you worked on?
A: I've done other comics strips in the past...I had a short lived comic that I sent off for syndication called "UFOs & Water Balloons", and...well, I don't think I need to tell you the result of that. I may put some of those up for viewing in the future. The early ones are a bit crap, but some of the later ones still hold up a bit. I worked on it long before Goobs ever came into existence.

I also work periodically on another comic called "Liquid Exploits", where the pages are designed in a more "comic book" format. I used to have the first 7 pages up (and I'll get those put up again), but as for the rest, they are still in sketch format, and I need to rework some of them, because they make my intestine want to jump up my neck and throttle my brain.

Q: Why do you focus on sci-fi so much in the strip?
A: Because if I focused on nudity and lesbianism, I wouldn't be able to show this strip to my family.

Q: Do you think Enterprise will get better in the upcoming seasons?
A: Hey, this is supposed to be about me.

Q: What's the best part about creating Goobs?
A: Knowing that I'm making thousands of people laugh. Okay, hundreds of people.

Fine, dozens of people.

EDIT: Actually, in the last few months, it IS closer to hundreds of people. You guys ROCK!

Q: Where the hell does Professor Zug come from?
A: Well, I had created a similar looking character in college, and I always kept it in the back of my mind. As for why I added him....well, come on, I can't do a comic strip with a sci-fi theme without having a sci-fi-ish character, can I? I had been wanting to add a non-human character for awhile, and was even considering making it a "shrieker" from Tremors. God, that would've been scary.

Q: Is Zug real, or imaginary?
A: Do they really understand what Stewie is saying on Family Guy? Whatever's funnier.

Q: Where did you go to college, anyway?
A: I went to the Columbus College of Art and Design, and majored in illustration.

Q: Did you really hide under the sink when Farscape was cancelled?
A: No, but I did cry a lot.

Q: How come you never update, you asshole?
A: Well, I used to have a job. That takes up time. When I first started the strip, I did NOT have a job. So I had more time to devote. At the moment, I do not have a job. Therefore, logically, I have more time again to devote to the strip. Though in the future, when I eventually get another job, I will still try to find more time to put toward strip-making.

Q: Ever do guest strips for other people?
A: Yes, as a matter of fact, I've done guest strips for five webcomics, and four were used. You can see them all in "Other Stuff". I drew for Academic Probation (retired), Force Monkeys (also now retired), Slackerz (retired as well; sensing a pattern here?), and Monkey Business (still around thankfully). My fifth was to PVP, but it wasn't used. You can still see it though.

Q: Will you ever have a "guest strip week"?
A: I don't think enough people know about Goobs for me to get enough submissions. But a man can dream.....

If I ever do, I'll let you know.
